3 ways to help Ukrainian refugees from Tarragona4 min read

More than 2.3 million people have fled Ukraine and another million remain displaced inside the country due to the rapidly deteriorating situation and Russia’s military actions in the country. Many Ukrainian refugees are coming to Spain, to Catalonia and also to Tarragona. All of them will need a roof over their heads, as well as blankets, furniture and so on.

  1. Offer a (temporary) home

I need accommodation

Have you fled Ukraine and would like to stay directly with private people? Please note that most of our accommodations are in Tarragona.

Ви втекли з України і хотіли б залишитися у приватних осіб у Таррагоні? Надішліть електронного листа на адресу ucrania2022tarragona@gmail.com.

Explanation if you need accommodation: The Associació d’Ucraïnesos a Tarragona will match you with a family offering a place to stay for a few weeks. Once they have identified a guest family, they will contact you via phone.  Please send an email to ucrania2022tarragona@gmail.com: with your name, surname, e-mail, phonenumber, total of beds needed, family members (total), languages spoken (german, Russian, English, Spanish, Dutch or else), your arrival date, and anything else they should know.

I want to offer a (temporary) home
Here you can offer practical help by giving shelter to people from Ukraine – thank you for your solidarity and support! By emailing you will be put directly in contact with the Ukraine association in Tarragona. She is the matchmaker between refugees looking for housing for a few days, weeks or temporarily. She will contact you by phone.

Explanation if you’re offering a (temporary) accommodation:

Please send an e-mail to Associació d’Ucraïnesos de Tarragona ucrania2022tarragona@gmail.com with: your name, first name, telephone number, the total number of beds you offer, the languages you speak (German, Russian, English, Spanish, Dutch or other), and from when you can receive people and how many. And until when. You will be informed about all practical matters.

2. Bring things that you can spare (or buy!)
At the moment many refugees are on their way to other countries. At the moment there is a lot of transport with food and blankets being distributed in countries like Poland. But there comes a time when they arrive here, in Catalonia, on the Costa Daurada, Tarragona. Women with children will arrive first, as many men have stayed behind to fight.

Ideas to contribute:

  • Beds for children
  • Toys for children
  • Sofas
  • Medicines (paracetamol)
  • Blankets
  • Dishes
  • Furniture
  • Baby milk
  • Shelters in Tarragona:
  • Parque RIU Clar Calle Sofre in Riu clar. Here you can find the address on Google Maps. You will recognise it by the Ukrainian flag.
  • El Petit Taller D’Ungles (Carrer Pin i Soler 3, Tarragona)

When we know of more places on the Costa Daurada, we’ll post them here.

If you know more, please let us know team@casalunya.com.

  • Be a Ukrainian national or a foreign person with permanent residence in Ukraine who has been displaced from Ukraine as of 24 February 2022 as a result of the Russian invasion that started on that date;
  • Be Ukrainian nationals or foreigners with permanent residence in Ukraine who were in Spain when the conflict broke out and have not been able to return to their country;
  • Lack financial means and meet the other requirements of the Reception System;
  • Apply for international protection or temporary protection as soon as possible and within a maximum period of three months and, therefore, be documented as such (document of manifest of willingness to apply for international protection, document of applicant for international protection or document of beneficiary of temporary protection).

All the information is well explained in the guide for displaced persons.
